How to install assets using the new CwX folder structure?

From 2016 onwards the CreativeworX assets will be installed differently.

Separated product folders will keep more system memory free and will improve performance. This however means that you need to separately activate CwX assets in scenarios and that your existing scenarios using CwX assets will be broken.. I understand that this is unfortunate but the more CwX products will be released the bigger the problem with using the current folder structure will become.

How do I install the new versions?

The new versions will have a different installer program. It will ask for your serial key during the install process and you need to make sure you have an active internet connection. If the key checks out the assets will be installed in the CreativeworX folder under assets. The Re 421 Pack files will go into the CreativeworX/CwX_RE421/ folder. Other packs will go into their respective folders (CwX_RE420, CwX_RE620, CwX_RE460 etc.).

What happens to the old assets?

The old version will not be deleted automatically! This means that you could run both old and new versions together. This might be handy at the start to help you changing your scenarios so that they will start using the new version. The process will be a bit tedious but in principle you could go into the scenario editor and place the new engine next to the old one. Then move the circular scenario assets (on top of the engine) to the new version, delete the old and re-attach the engine to the wagons/consist. This should keep your scenario working in most cases. After doing this procedure for all scenarios you wish to keep, you can delete the old version of the engine using the uninstaller located in your RailWorks folder. You might also use RW_Tools for altering your scenarios.

Below you see that both versions of the Re 421 pack are available after install of V 2.0. The new version is SBB re 421.

The uninstallers for your old versions are located in : ../Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\. For the Re 421 it is the file: UninstalRE421.exe

When will all my engines be updated?

I am currently working on updates for all CwX assets. Next to the new folder structure I am also doing other improvements to the models. This means it could take some weeks before everything is updated, You will be notified about any updates by email. Also you can keep track of things by visiting this website or on Facebook (

    Hi Paul,

First of all my compliments for your great work you did by building the various loc types. After my recent guest drive on a RE 421 from Arth Goldau down to Locarno on the old Gothard track, I’m very much impressed about the detailed functions you’ve included. Especially the step sound of the speed switch on M position is amazing real.

Now my question. Where do I found the window in the Earth editor where I can select the loc types to include or change in an existing scenario? This does not appear in the upper right section of the screen in the Earth editor. I’m using Dovetail Games TS 2016. Any ideas?? Thanks for your comments.

    Best regards from Switzerland

      Hi Flo,

Thank you very much for your nice words, I do my best and it makes me happy to hear you like my work.

The image below shows which button to click in the left part of the editor. That will bring up the providerlist and tickboxes on the right. Choose CreativeworX and check the enginetypes you want to activate for your scenario.

          Hi Paul

Firts I’m not very familiar with the TS 2016 and therefore you can treat me as a “Newbe”. 😉

Now I can open the providerlist now but I can mark the left and right tickboxes only, but not the one in the middle (Loc). What am I doing wrong?
As I wrote, I’m a newbe on this and aybe you have a kind of manual available which you could mail me?

          Thanks again for your help.

          Best regards

Sorry, I have no manual for this, it is basic TS functionality. When I try this, ticking the right box also automatically ticks the middle one. I am no expert on Trainsimulator but have you tried other providers/engines? Do they have the same issue? Maybe try to ask the question on a forum?

I hope someone can help you out with this.

            Kind regards,

The updated add-ons will automatically be installed in the new folders. The above post describes the process.
